In 1987, I faced a moment that would define my understanding of confidence forever. My father-in-law was sick and needed to sell the family answering service. He asked me—someone with "zero, zip, nada experience in computers"—to take over and run the business. His reason? He believed I had the "heart" and "smarts" to lead the staff and grow the business better than any competitor.
I wish I'd had an executive coach during those first six months. They were a baptism by fire that we all survived. But here's what I learned: confidence isn't about knowing everything from day one. It's about trusting your ability to figure it out while staying true to your values. Over 15 years, we grew that business by 300%. Not because I became someone different, but because I learned to lead with authentic confidence—stabilizing staff, developing training programs, and embracing new technology while honoring the heart of what we did.
When we sold the business in 2001, I thought I was starting over. Beginning as a development coordinator in the nonprofit sector felt like another leap into the unknown. But something magical happened: I discovered work that aligned with my deepest values.
Over 25 years, I've served missions that inspire me—from local faith-based organizations to international humanitarian relief. I've moved from processing gifts to leading development teams, serving as Executive Director, and overseeing boards and staff.
But here's what I noticed: So many talented nonprofit leaders struggled with the same confidence challenges I'd faced in 1987. They loved their missions but doubted their fundraising abilities. They had the heart and smarts but questioned whether they were "good enough" at development work.
Throughout my career, I found myself naturally coaching colleagues and team members. In 2015, I formalized this passion by becoming a certified professional coach.
Because here's what I believe: Each of us can achieve our most exciting dreams. You don't need to become someone different to be exceptional at fundraising. You need to rediscover the confidence that brought you to this mission work in the first place. The Flourish Method isn't about learning tricks or tactics. It's about becoming confidently, authentically you in your fundraising role. Just like my father-in-law saw something in me that I couldn't see yet, I help nonprofit leaders recognize the strengths they already possess.
When you feel confident in your work, everything changes. Your passion becomes magnetic. Your team follows your lead. Your impact grows naturally. That's the journey I've been on for nearly four decades. And it's the journey I'm honored to guide you through.
I believe everyone has everything they need to be successful. My role isn't to teach you to be someone else. It's to help you feel confident being exactly who you are— while building the skills that honor both your mission and your donors.
